woman accused of practicing medicine without a license | Alabama News
HOMEWOOD, Ala. (AP) — A Birmingham-area woman has been charged with practicing medicine without a license after an investigation showed she was importing unapproved Botox and giving injections, authorities said Thursday.
According to a statement from the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners.
While the statement described Cherkes as Russian, court records show she has lived in Alabama for several years. A Facebook site describes her as a Russian dermatologist and a beautician in the United States.
Court documents were not immediately available to show whether Cherkes had an attorney who could speak on her behalf, and authorities did not release any information about the woman who filed the complaint. The Food and Drug Administration also received an anonymous tip, according to the release.
The investigation included agents from the US Secret Service, several towns in the Birmingham area and Walmart.
