A maker of medical products and equipment plans to more than double its workforce in southeast Alabama, state and company officials said.
Georgia-based Global Resources International said its subsidiary Advanced Products Solutions is expected to create 100 new jobs in Dothan, Alabama, and another 10 positions in nearby Columbia, Alabama.
APS established the Dothan plant two years ago to manufacture injection molded medical products, personal protective equipment and other technical products. The expansion will focus on medical products for the human and animal health segments, local economic development officials said. The site was initially to have a workforce of 70 people.
In Colombia, meanwhile, APS will spend more than $1.8 million on a medical product sterilization facility. Company officials said hiring at both sites is expected to ramp up over the 90 days.
Global Resources designs, manufactures, distributes and sterilizes products for the health, animal care and industrial markets. Another GRI subsidiary, Eastern Technologies Inc., is based in Ashland, Alabama, and manufactures protective equipment for nuclear power, chemical processing, defense and other industrial applications.
Alabama Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said the expansion will boost production of “much-needed goods” in Alabama and across the country.
